End of October?

Where has the time gone?

The decorators have finished for now as we have officially run out of money! There is carpet ordered for the master bedroom and roman blinds for the lounge but that’s it. The rest will have to wait for a little while.

IMG_4514 - 2014-10-21 at 10-14-41The exterminator came and dealt with the wasps nest in the roof of the bay window. We were willing to live and let live until a few of the wasps decided to join us in the bathroom for a shower one dark morning! They must have been attracted to the light. Plus it turns out that, although wasps never reuse the same nest, it was likely that a juvenile queen or two would have hibernated in the ceiling and set up shop next door to the old nest next year!

IMG_4528 - 2014-10-22 at 08-37-32We have also had a more welcome guest in the back garden. A hedgehog has been busy building a hibernacula under a large pile of garden refuse. Ruby on the lookout.

IMG_4530 - 2014-10-22 at 12-59-33Hedgehogs are endangered so we want to do everything to make sure they are happy in our garden. While there are plenty of slugs and insects for them to eat, as the weather gets colder there will be less and less so we have bought some food to make sure they are nice and fat before they hibernate. Rosie is checking out the new food.

IMG_4587 - 2014-10-28 at 09-41-52We have bought this hedgehog feeding station for them.

Oliver has donated a spare water bowl.

IMG_4589 - 2014-10-28 at 09-42-13The hedgehog lives in the big pile behind the feeding station.

IMG_4547 - 2014-10-26 at 11-14-36Oliver has his own special source of water. You can also see that the new Silestone quartz counter tops have been fitted in the en suite.

IMG_4541 - 2014-10-26 at 11-13-19Oliver approves.

IMG_4525 - 2014-10-21 at 15-36-01The lounge has been painted.

IMG_4524 - 2014-10-21 at 15-35-28The blinds will be fitted next week and then we will have to wait for carpet.

IMG_4518 - 2014-10-21 at 15-32-05The master bedroom has been painted and the feature wall papered. Carpet will be coming next week but we will have to wait for blinds…

  1. ‘where has the time gone’ indeed. PlAnne Of A Hundred Days.
LOVE the hedgehog and please St Francis keep it from ever crossing the road.
Yesterday I was hurtling along at 80kms when I had to hard brake for a completely relaxed kanga sitting in the centre of the road (far south-west Vic). It didn’t rush away either.
Oliver is the perfect complement to the stylish bathroom and no, the wasps with cat stinging potential cannot live. they kill bees too.
Feature wall strip looks perfect. Bravo.

    • Thanks iOdyne. Yes, we were worried about the potential the wasps had for attacking the cats – wouldn’t bear thinking about! Oliver was the inspiration for the colour of the en suite all the way down to the aubergine of his paw pads, so he fits in perfectly.

  2. The house is looking amazing! Well done! I love the hedgehog feeding station. I’ve never seen one before. I’ve had my eye on a wicker looking hedgehog house in M&S – it looks quite cute, but never seen a feeding station. Bet you can’t wait for the blinds and eventually the carpet!!

  3. We’ve been away on holiday for a bit, so I’m just catching up.

I love how Oliver looks in the bathroom – I think I’ve mentioned before I love cats but I am allergic to them… photos are the best way for me to enjoy. Your cats could live here if I thought I could take enough medicine to offset my allergies!

I love how subtle your colours are, but how well they work together. The house is coming together so well.

Do the cats have the run of the place now?

    • Helen I send sympathy and my first thought was that you would be OK with Scott’s Three MusCateers because they are such spotless champions. Please read this as it may have your answer – you could be OK with a desexed female cat that you keep indoors. They have the least dander (the allergy causing thing). My clean house-only cat and I have now been on a farm one week and I broke out in hives I now suspect from holding the 8 farm cats who roll in the dry earth and hunt baby wild rabbits etc.

    • Thanks Helen. Yes, the cats have the full run of the house now. I thought some of the rooms should be fairly neutral to balance the wacky colours in other rooms – the red dining room, yellow breakfast room, green kitchen and purple en suite! iOdyne is right that you might be able to combat cat allergies – also there is the option of a sphinx cat – the wrinkly ones with no fur!
